USDOT Federal Aviation Administration Title 14 Code of Fed Regulations Part 157 requires all persons to notify the FAA at least 90 days before construction, alteration, activation, deactivation or change to the status or use of a civil or joint-use (civil/military) airport, by completing FAA Form 7480-1 through their Web Link for Obstruction Evaluation/Airport Airspace Analysis (OE/AAA): https://oeaaa/external/userMgmt/permissionAction.jsp?action=showLoginForm. This will start an airspace study (takes about 6-12 mos.). After issuance of the Determination Letter from the FAA, completion is required of the FAA Form 5010-5 (Airport Master Record) and the NCDOT Aircraft Landing Area Permit form (NCDOT will not accept this form without the Determination Letter from the FAA). Local Government and/or municipal government should be contacted initially to determine if the proposed site is properly zoned.
