The Underground Storage Tanks Section's Permits and Inspection Program ensures that underground storage tanks in North Carolina are properly permitted. Permitting a UST means the system is in good operating order and poses no danger to the environment or human health and safety. Inspections are performed to make sure USTs comply with the regulations that govern their operation. Education and training are available to owners and operators who would like to learn more about safe operating practices. Technical assistance, available on a one-to-one basis, is also available for owners and operators who need help bringing their systems into compliance.
