Underwater Archaeology Permit

Any Qualified Person, Firm Or Corporation Desiring To Conduct Any Type Of Exploration, Recovery Or Salvage Operations, In The Course Of Which Any Part Of A Derelict Or Its Contents Or Other Archaeological Site May Be Removed, Displaced Or Destroyed, Shall First Make Application To The Department Of Natural And Cultural Resources For A Permit Or To Conduct Such Operations. Holders Of Permits Or Shall Also Be Responsible For Obtaining Permission Of Any Federal Agencies Having Jurisdiction, Including The U. S. Coast Guard, The U. S. Department Of The Navy And The U. S. Army Corps Of Engineers Prior To Conducting Any Salvaging Operations.

Public Interest, Proper Conservation And Curation Of Recovered Archaeological Materials. Effective 10/1/05, Applicants Are Required To Submit To A Formal Criminal Background Check As A Result Of Amendments Made To NCGS Chapters 70 & 123 During The 2005 Legislative Session.
